The origins of AIS-technology go back to the early 2000s, where Nauticast played a major role in the maritime market. The X-Pack DS Class A transponder received BSH Wheelmark Approval in 2003, after much research and development had been undertaken. This device became the quasi-standard for many operators of ships and many still have them today.
